Companies can't remove reviews or game the system. Here's why

This integrates with ADP Payroll and 401K plan. We are easily able to monitor the contributions, and withdrawals made for the health module. All is able to be seen and reviewed on the one website. It also allows client access so employees can monitor their situation.
An issue is the need to be serviced by separate teams on these issues. We generally need to initiate and follow up on all directions that use multiple plans.
  • Employee information is generally available.
  • The compliance manuals are posted for HR.
  • We can monitor expenses with payroll deductions.
  • Better communication between departments.
  • Compliance update alerts to HR would be helpful if affecting current employees.
  • Chat help is good but could use AI upgrades
This is important for small business start ups that need to implement this with their HR. The compliance with the ACA is necessary to reduce risk and fines for all.
I don't see where there would be times when it is less appropriate unless there are multiple states involved and not all of the monitoring capabilities are possible.
  • There is less stress on HR as they are able to reference the compliance module when reviewing employee eligibility.
  • The fiduciary responsibility is improved as we can source documentation with the ACA.
  • There is an expense to this and often times the savings is not measurable.
ADP Payroll
ADP 401K Plan
This allows HR to schedule a time to weekly review the various modules for input. I understand the need for security but having a master log in for those who have multiple privileges would be helpful.
I do not have direct updates but those in HR that interact with healthcare compliance and see the legislative updates do pass those on when necessary. This helps with us having a dedicated member review and educate those in hiring and payroll.
We do not have multiple smart compliance.
The ADP pricing is consistent. Paychex product pricing was not as predictable. Also the support seemed to be more sales oriented rather than service oriented. This may be more an issue with the approach of ADP rather than their product. In summary ADP offered better transparency in their offerings.

ACA Reporting Made Painless

We picked up the module when the ACA reporting first became available, in 2017. As we had used ADP for our payroll since we began (in 2008) and had integrated the benefits module around the same time, it was easy to implement.

The 1095C process has been relatively painless for us, as the data feeds to the ACA reporting system automatically. Reminders of due dates and IRS submission updates happen automatically. The support has also been very helpful, as we always have a few employees whose information needs to be entered manually. Overall, we are pleased with the convenience and ease the system offers.
  • Reporting
  • Tracking status
  • Reminders of IRS deadlines
  • the dashboard could be a bit more user-friendly
  • there is a link to categories for 1095C reporting that would nice to have directly linked
  • ACA data can be confusing to interpret as shown in compliance dashboard
It's great that we can partner with ADP to make the ACA reporting less work, as end-of-year is already such a busy time in the HR world. Aside from a few manual updates, the process goes pretty smoothly and is one less task we need to spend our time doing.
  • ease of use
  • accuracy of data
  • reminder of compliance deadlines
  • ROI is not available
  • But I'd estimate that we save @ 15 hours of HR work
  • It's probably 5 hours or less spent annually, most of which is spent in research

All health enrollments are now processed and tracked in ADP SmartCompliance Health Compliance. The employee logs in to enroll in or decline coverage. It helped solve getting enrollment information to the employees.
  • Easier for an employee to enroll. The employees' basic information is already in the system so they don't have to fill out all that information.
  • Employees can log in and see what coverage they elected for the year, which they couldn't do before.
  • The ability to electronically sign certain forms, like the Ltd and Std form without having to print, sign, scan, and upload the form. Not everyone has access to a scanner to upload the form.
It makes doing the year-end ACA filings a lot easier since it tracks the information for the reports. It also creates the files to submit at the end of the year. It would help if it gave better/more descriptive reasons as to why some of the files were rejected.
  • Positive: it made the collection of open enrollment information a lot easier with a lot less keying of information for the HR department to do. So it saved a lot of time for us.
It is pretty comparable. SmartCompliance HealthCompliance is easy to use when setting up benefits, running reports, and reviewing and approving information. It would be nice to get notices when files fail to process through.

ACA Compliance Reporting

We use ADP Health Compliance in our department to ensure compliance with ACA health care reporting requirement. It helps us ensure we meet the government requirements and ensures we have no errors in reporting information when we send the 1095-C form to employees and the 1095 to the IRS. The tools help us identify errors in data as well as the ability to make corrections as needed.
  • The ability to breakdown the data into segments allows us to zero in on errors or problems that we can focus on in order to correct those issues.
  • The information is presented in an easy to understand interface which is very user-friendly and very intuitive. I have used the interface in the past to change data or approvals of forms. It was something I could figure out on my own due to it being so easy to navigate.
  • ADP Compliance is very good at pulling in the data and identifying issues and presenting it in method that is easy to work off of. We have many employees and the files we sent over were uploaded and processed. The errors were quickly identified so we could focus on correcting the problem employees.
  • I would love to see a more robust testing environment after the data has been uploaded. For example, different life events to ensure they are appearing on the 1095's as they should. If the data is going across correctly that seems to be the end point of testing. I identified a few concerns and had them corrected but I wish they had done some more checks after the data had come over in reference to changes.
For my particular use I would say the analyzing of data and identifying issues with employee data is very robust. The ability to identify and point out segments of data that may be incorrect is great. We use ADP to ensure that the data being listed on our 1095 is accurate. We also use them to ensure we are in compliance with our Safe Harbor testing and requirements.
  • Time is something that we just don't have at my business. We rely on ADP Compliance to ensure we are meeting the ACA requirements -freeing up our team to focus on other items. As we have updated and tweaked wrong information throughout the year it will make end of year reporting much easier and faster allowing us to focus on items which we want to focus on.
Both companies offer the software necessary and the systems for reporting. I do prefer ADP's interface as they have done a good job in making it easy to understand the data. ADP was already in place when I arrived but have been very pleased. The biggest differentiation for me is also customer service. The team I use with ADP is wonderful with a lot of knowledge and experience in the space. They help ensure we meet all requirements and are always willing to assist us when needed.
